Scaffolding and Step-by-Step Instructions

Large tasks can overwhelm an AI, leading to generic or incomplete outputs. Breaking down a complex request into a series of smaller, sequential steps, also known as 'scaffolding,' guides the AI through the process. Each step builds on the previous one, ensuring a more thorough and structured result. Instead of 'Write a marketing plan,' try: 'Step 1: Define target audience. Step 2: Identify key selling points. Step 3: Propose channels for promotion. Step 4: Draft a campaign slogan.' This approach, much like teaching a student, provides a clear pathway. Before, a single prompt might yield a superficial plan; after, you get a detailed, actionable strategy.

In plain terms

Think of assembling IKEA furniture: rather than just getting a box of parts and a picture of the finished product, you get a step-by-step instruction manual to guide you through each stage of the build.

Why it matters

Scaffolding reduces AI 'hallucinations' and improves the quality of complex outputs by providing clear, manageable sub-goals. For your next multi-part project, break it into numbered steps for the AI.
