Procedural Content Generation (PCG)
Procedural Content Generation (PCG) uses algorithms to automatically create game content like levels, quests, or item attributes, rather than handcrafting everything. Instead of designers placing every tree or enemy, PCG defines rules for how these elements should appear and interact, allowing the AI to generate varied arrangements. This can range from simple variations on existing assets to entirely novel creations based on complex patterns and parameters.
Imagine a game designer giving a chef a recipe for a cake but allowing the chef (AI) to experiment with different frosting designs, fruit arrangements, and even slightly alter the ingredient ratios within a defined range, resulting in unique cakes each time.
PCG allows for infinite replayability and reduces development time by automating asset creation, fostering exploration and dynamic experiences in games.
