Reflective Prompting

Before generating its final output, instruct the AI to first reflect on the request. This involves asking it to outline its planned approach, identify potential challenges, or even suggest alternative strategies. For example, 'Before you draft the report, first outline the key sections you plan to include and explain why you chose them.' This forces the AI to 'think' about the task, often catching errors or improving structure before it commits to a full output. It's a meta-cognitive step.

In plain terms

It's like asking a student to show their work before giving the final answer, ensuring they understand the problem.

Why it matters

This technique significantly improves the quality and relevance of AI-generated content by preventing off-topic or poorly structured responses. Use it for complex tasks where a thoughtful approach is crucial.
