Progressive Refinement (Iterative Development)

Progressive Refinement involves starting with a basic AI-generated output and iteratively adding detail, improving clarity, or expanding scope through successive prompts. Instead of trying to get a perfect result in one go, you guide the AI step-by-step, building complexity. For instance, if you're drafting a blog post, you might first prompt for an outline, then for a draft of each section, and finally for an introduction and conclusion. This mirrors how a sculptor starts with a rough block and slowly carves out the details, rather than trying to manifest a perfect statue instantly.

In plain terms

It's like sketching a drawing before painting it, or building a house brick by brick instead of trying to assemble it in one piece.

Why it matters

This technique helps manage AI's tendency to produce generic or incomplete responses when given broad prompts, ensuring higher quality and more specific outputs.
