Despite the acquisition, WhatsApp largely maintained its core features and commitment to encryption. It has since integrated features like group chats, status updates (similar to Instagram Stories), and even business accounts for companies to interact with customers.

A common misconception about WhatsApp is that it's entirely separate from Facebook or Instagram. While it operates as its own distinct app, it is owned by the same parent company, Meta. This connection has sometimes raised concerns about data sharing and privacy, though WhatsApp maintains its end-to-end encryption for private messages. It has become an essential tool for personal and professional communication for billions of people worldwide.
