Loss Function
A loss function, also known as a cost function, quantifies how poorly an AI model performs at making predictions compared to the actual results. It takes the model's output and the true value, then calculates a single number representing the 'error' or 'discrepancy'. The goal during training is to minimize this loss, guiding the model to learn better patterns.
In plain terms
A loss function is like a golf score, telling you exactly how far off your ball landed from the hole.
Why it matters
It provides the essential feedback signal that allows AI models to learn and improve, directly influencing their accuracy and performance.
