Explanatory Disambiguation
This technique involves asking the AI to explain why it chose a particular interpretation or resolved an ambiguity in its response. When an AI might make assumptions, this prompt makes those assumptions explicit, allowing you to correct them if necessary. For instance, if an AI summarizes a complex meeting and you notice a vague point, you might ask, 'You summarized 'Project X' as having 'some delays.' What specific information led you to conclude 'some delays' rather than 'significant delays' or 'minor delays'?' This forces the AI to justify its interpretation. Before: A summary with a potentially ambiguous phrase. After: A clear explanation of the underlying evidence for that phrase.
It's like a lawyer asking a witness, 'On what basis do you say that?' rather than just accepting their statement. It uncovers the reasoning behind an assertion.
This helps prevent misunderstandings and ensures the AI's output is grounded in the source material, improving the accuracy and trustworthiness of its information. Difficulty: 2
