Also called: Google Vertex AI

Vertex AI is a development platform from Google Cloud that helps you build, deploy, and scale machine learning models faster. It brings together various tools for the entire machine learning workflow.

Vertex AI is a unified machine learning platform offered by Google Cloud. Think of it as a central hub where developers and data scientists can handle all aspects of their machine learning projects, from preparing data to training models and deploying them for real-world use. It was designed to simplify the complex process of building and managing AI solutions, making it more accessible and efficient.

Before Vertex AI, Google Cloud offered many separate tools for different parts of the machine learning pipeline, which could be cumbersome to integrate. Vertex AI brings these tools together into a single, comprehensive platform. This means you can use the same environment for everything: exploring your data, training custom machine learning models, deploying them as application programming interfaces (APIs) for others to use, and monitoring their performance over time.

One of Vertex AI's key strengths is its versatility. It supports both automatically building models with AutoML – where the platform handles much of the model design – and custom training, where you have full control over your code and model architecture. It also provides pre-trained models from Google, like those for computer vision or natural language processing, which you can use directly or fine-tune with your own data. This flexibility allows users to choose the approach that best fits their project's needs and their level of expertise.

In essence, Vertex AI helps eliminate much of the operational hassle associated with machine learning. For example, if you're building a system to recommend products to customers, Vertex AI can help you prepare the customer data, train a recommendation model, launch it so your website can use it, and track whether it's making good recommendations. It aims to accelerate the journey from an idea to a deployed, working AI application.
