What does CV stand for?

You encounter Computer Vision all the time, even if you don't realize it. When your smartphone recognizes your face to unlock it, that's CV at work. When online retailers recommend products based on images you've viewed, or when self-driving cars identify traffic signs and pedestrians, those are all applications of CV. It's also used in medical imaging to help doctors detect diseases, in manufacturing for quality control, and in security for surveillance.

One common misconception about Computer Vision is that it's just about recognizing simple objects. While that's a part of it, modern CV systems are incredibly sophisticated. They can not only identify what's in an image but also understand actions, predict events, and even generate new images. However, a limitation is that CV systems can still be fooled by images that are slightly altered in ways humans wouldn't notice, and they can also inherit biases present in their training data, leading to unfair or inaccurate results in certain situations.
