Using AI as a Structured Debater

Instead of asking an AI to simply provide an answer, task it with arguing both sides of a complex issue in a structured debate format. For a writer exploring a nuanced topic, don't just ask, 'Summarize the pros and cons of remote work.' Instead, prompt it, 'Argue strongly for remote work, highlighting its benefits. Then, from a different perspective, argue just as strongly against it, focusing on its drawbacks. Conclude by identifying the key tension points.' This approach forces the AI to explore the topic more comprehensively and helps you uncover less obvious counterarguments and subtleties.

In plain terms

You're not asking for a single opinion, but for the AI to embody two different lawyers, each presenting a compelling case for their side.

Why it matters

This method helps you move beyond superficial understanding to grasp the full complexity of an issue, improving your ability to make balanced judgments or craft more insightful content.
