Microsoft AI has introduced MAI-Thinking-1, a 35B-active, ~1T-total parameters sparse Mixture of Experts model. It is a medium-sized model designed for advanced reasoning, matching leading models on software engineering benchmarks and demonstrating strong mathematical capabilities, with a 256k token context window. Trained from scratch on clean, commercially licensed data without distillation, it aims to deliver enterprise-grade performance and is available in private preview on Microsoft Foundry.
