Microsoft AI has launched MAI-Thinking-1, a medium-sized reasoning model with 35 billion active parameters in a sparse Mixture of Experts architecture. It demonstrates strong performance on software engineering benchmarks, matching leading models like Claude Opus 4.6 on SWE-Bench Pro, and excels in mathematical reasoning, scoring 97.0% on AIME 2025. This model is built with enterprise readiness in mind, supporting a 256k token context window and function calling.
