Microsoft AI has launched MAI-Thinking-1, a 35B-active, ~1T-total parameter sparse Mixture of Experts (MoE) model, positioned as a strong reasoning model. It matches leading models on software engineering benchmarks like SWE-Bench Pro and demonstrates advanced mathematical reasoning. Microsoft also introduced its 'Hill-Climbing Machine,' a co-designed pipeline aimed at continuous, reliable improvement across all components of model development.
