European Heatwave Fuels Historic Wildfires
Europe is currently experiencing its third heatwave of the summer, contributing to what French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez said will likely be a historic year for fires. With 32,000 hectares burned already, more than the total in 2025, the tinder-dry vegetation and high temperatures are fueling blazes from the Iberian Peninsula to France. Scientists attribute the increased frequency and difficulty in combating these fires to climate change.
