Claude Code Makes 'Auto Mode' Default for Enhanced Autonomy

Anthropic's Claude Code is now defaulting to 'auto mode' for Pro, Max, and Team plans. This mode allows Claude to work autonomously for longer periods, executing multi-step tasks without needing constant user prompts. It also removes charges for the small number of extra 'tokens' (units of text processed by AI) used by the auto mode's classifier, which helps prevent harmful actions and keeps tasks on track.

Why it matters

Users like analysts, managers, and small business owners can now delegate more complex, long-running tasks to Claude, reducing the need for constant supervision. This can lead to increased productivity, as the AI can complete more work uninterrupted.
