ChatGPT's Computer Use Tools Expand Beyond Coding

OpenAI is expanding its 'Computer Use' tools, which allow ChatGPT to interact with web browsers and other applications similarly to a human. This year, the company launched a Chrome extension for browser takeover, created in-app browsers for public websites, and integrated Computer Use into its Codex coding tool. OpenAI president Greg Brockman indicated that these capabilities are now accessible for anyone performing computer work, not just coders, marking a significant step towards AI agents that can operate a computer with human-like dexterity.

Why it matters

A manager could have ChatGPT fill out online forms or extract data from multiple websites automatically, freeing up time from repetitive digital tasks. A researcher could automate data collection from various web sources.
