Foundation Models and Prompt Engineering

Foundation models are large AI models pre-trained on vast amounts of data, capable of adapting to many downstream tasks with minimal fine-tuning. Prompt engineering is the art and science of crafting effective inputs (prompts) to guide these models to produce desired outputs, essentially teaching the model what to do through natural language instructions.

In plain terms

Foundation models are like highly educated, versatile interns, and prompt engineering is giving them clear, concise instructions to excel at specific tasks.

Why it matters

It’s a paradigm shift in how we interact with and deploy AI, moving from task-specific model training to instruction-based adaptation.
